Adaptive Multilevel BEM for Acoustic Scattering
نویسنده
چکیده
We study the hand p{versions of the Galerkin boundary element method for integral equations of the rst kind in 2D and 3D which result from the scattering of time harmonic acoustic waves at hard or soft scatterers. We derive an abstract a{posteriori error estimate for indeenite problems which is based on stable multilevel decompositions of our test and trial spaces. The Galerkin error is estimated by easily computable local error indicators and an adaptive algorithm for h-or p{adaptivity is formulated. The theoretical results are illustrated by numerical examples for hard and soft scatterers in 2D and 3D.

Adaptive fast multipole boundary element method for three-dimensional half-space acoustic wave problems
A new adaptive fast multipole boundary element method (BEM) for solving 3-D half-space acoustic wave problems is presented in this paper. The half-space Green’s function is employed explicitly in the boundary integral equation (BIE) formulation so that a tree structure of the boundary elements only for the boundaries of the real domain need to be applied, instead of using a tree structure that ...
متن کاملAn adaptive fast multipole boundary element method for three-dimensional acoustic wave problems based on the Burton–Miller formulation
The high solution costs and non-uniqueness difficulties in the boundary element method (BEM) based on the conventional boundary integral equation (CBIE) formulation are two main weaknesses in the BEM for solving exterior acoustic wave problems. To tackle these two weaknesses, an adaptive fast multipole boundary element method (FMBEM) based on the Burton–Miller formulation for 3-D acoustics is p...

a combined adaptive tetrahedral tracing and edge diffraction model" (2014). A major challenge in architectural acoustics is the unification of diffraction models and geometric acoustics. For example, geometric acoustics is insufficient to quantify the scattering characteristics of acoustic diffusors. Typically the time-independent boundary element method (BEM) is the method of choice. In contra...
متن کاملA practical examination of the errors arising in the direct collocation boundary element method for acoustic scattering
For many engineers and acousticians, the boundary element method (BEM) provides an invaluable tool in the analysis of complex problems. It is particularly well suited for the examination of acoustical problems within large domains. Unsurprisingly, the widespread application of the BEM continues to produce an academic interest in the methodology. New algorithms and techniques are still being pro...
متن کاملA New Adaptive Algorithm for the Fast Multipole Boundary Element Method
A new definition of the interaction list in the fast multipole method (FMM) is introduced in this paper, which can reduce the moment-to-local (M2L) translations by about 30-40% and therefore improve the efficiency for the FMM. In addition, an adaptive tree structure is investigated, which is potentially more efficient than the oct-tree structure for thin and slender domains as in the case of mi...
